The Long Now

The Long Now began toward the end of winter, during that long period of waiting for spring. I was also preparing for the Fenton Artwalk, so there was a sense of anticipation—looking forward to what was coming while still having to inhabit the time in between.

I wanted the painting to be simple and restrained, but I also wanted it to depict the passage of time. The long horizontal bands were intentional, moving quietly across the surface like one moment becoming the next. Subtle shifts in color and tone suggest change, but nothing happens suddenly.

The Long Now is about that experience of waiting—knowing something is ahead but unable to hurry its arrival. It reflects the quiet stretch between where we are and what comes next, when time seems to slow and asks us simply to be present within it.
