Ribbon Of Time

Ribbon of Time began with an awareness of time itself. It was winter, the days were growing shorter, and I found myself thinking not only about the passing of each day, but about the passage of my own life. I began with the sweeping red form, allowing it to become a visual expression of time moving through the painting.
 

As the ribbon winds through areas of darkness, light and shifting color, I think of the different periods of my life—the good and the difficult, the times that came easily and those that did not. There was sadness in looking back, but also a desire to understand how all of those experiences were connected.
 

Ribbon of Time is a reflection on the path that brought me to the present. I cannot separate one part of the journey from another; each has shaped what followed. Looking back became a way of connecting the pieces and, perhaps, understanding more clearly how I arrived where I am.
