Behind the Painting
Clearing Light began with a dark, atmospheric sea in motion and a distant horizon beyond it. The water carries a sense of turbulence, but my attention was drawn past it—to what I could begin to see on the other side.

As the painting developed, warm passages of light emerged against the deeper blues. That light became hope—not something distant that I was searching for, but something I was beginning to actually feel. It appears beyond the horizon and echoes through the foreground, entering the turbulence rather than simply waiting beyond it.

Clearing Light reflects a change in perspective. The unsettled waters haven't disappeared, but they are no longer all I can see. There is light beyond them, light within them, and for the first time, I can feel myself trusting that it will remain.
