Competing Currents
Directional Forces
Behind the Painting

Prevailing Winds came from a time when I felt pulled in different directions by the circumstances and experiences of my life. I wanted the painting to carry that sense of being buffeted by forces that seemed to be moving around me.

The circles and sweeping lines became directional elements, creating movement across the surface and suggesting competing currents. Color moves with them—sometimes colliding, sometimes overlapping—as the painting shifts from one area of energy to another.

Prevailing Winds became a reflection of what it feels like to move through forces you cannot always control—to be affected by them, while continuing to find your own way through.
