Held In Suspension

Held in Suspension grew out of my experience painting The Long Now. I loved the muted palette of blues, grays and earth tones and wanted to return to it, but this time I was interested in seeing what would happen if I changed the surface itself.

I began experimenting with glass bead gel, allowing the texture to influence the way the paint moved across the canvas. Unlike the soft horizontal movement of The Long Now, the textured medium interrupted that flow, creating areas that seem to gather, drift and remain suspended within the layers.

Although I wasn't consciously trying to revisit the same idea, I began to recognize a connection between the two paintings. Both speak to a period of waiting and the passage of time, but in different ways. The Long Now feels like time slowly moving forward; Held in Suspension feels like a moment caught within that movement—still changing, but not quite ready to settle.
