Tempest

Gathering Storm

Tempest began with the deep blues. As I worked, they started to suggest water, and a waterscape gradually revealed itself. Once I recognized it, I began to develop the movement more deliberately, building the waves and turbulent atmosphere to capture the energy of a storm.

I wanted the painting to feel unsettled and powerful, but I also introduced a warmer, calmer area beyond the turbulence. To me, that became the clearing still to come—the suggestion that the storm was already beginning to give way to something quieter.

No storm lasts forever. Tempest holds both moments: the force of being inside the storm and the promise of what lies beyond it.
